Travel
How to get to Queenstown
Queenstown is well served by major airlines with Air New Zealand
and Qantas flying direct from Sydney. Other carriers travelling
to and from Australia and New Zealand include Virgin Blue/Pacific
Blue and Freedom Air. Domestically there are several connections
each day from New Zealand main centres. It is recommended
that if you cannot fly direct to Queenstown, that you fly
through Christchurch as there are regular connections to Queenstown
within the same terminal. Access by road is a scenic option
– self drive or catch a scenic coach tour. Queensland,
northern NSW, Sydney and Melbourne residents (or connect to
these locations) can consider flying with Freedom Air from
Brisbane, Coolangatta, Sydney or Melbourne to Dunedin, then
travelling by road (about 4 hours) through scenic Central
Otago to Queenstown. There is daily coach service from Dunedin
to Queenstown and return with Wanaka ConneXions or you could
hire a car. For further information and bookings, please contact
All Occasions Travel.
It is recommended that you make your travel bookings as
early as possible to ensure availability of your flight preferences
and to take advantage of flight price special deals.

Milford Mariner
Overnight cruise 2 day/1 night |
|
| |
|
Day 1: From
Queenstown To Milford Sound
On boarding a Real Journeys coach in Queenstown, visitors
enjoy a relaxing trip along the shores of Lake Wakatipu and
through rolling countryside to Te Anau. The coach driver provides
an informative commentary in English only. Stopping in Te
Anau for a short break provides the opportunity for lunch
to be purchased (at extra cost) before the excursion continues
along the spectacular Milford Road. There is time for photo
stops and short walks along the way. Upon arrival at Milford
Sound, passengers board the Milford Mariner for the overnight
cruise. The Milford Mariner offers a very special dinner,
bed and breakfast experience. Designed along the lines of
a traditional New Zealand coastal trading scow to reflect
Fiordland's heritage, the Milford Mariner caters for visitors
who enjoy comfort, combined with activity. The vessel has
been purpose built to accommodate passengers in private cabins
with ensuite bathrooms. It has a spacious dining saloon, observation
lounge and large open deck areas for viewing the scenery of
Milford Sound. Departing from the Milford Wharf, the Milford
Mariner cruises the length of Milford Sound to the Tasman
Sea. The vessel explores in a leisurely way many points of
interest, with plenty of time available to view waterfalls,
rainforest, mountains and wildlife with the experienced nature
guide on board. After reaching the open sea, subject to weather
and favourable conditions the sails are hoisted for a period.
The vessel returns to and anchors overnight in sheltered Harrison
Cove. Activities include kayaking and exploring the shoreline
on the tender craft. The overnight cruise includes a delicious
four-course buffet evening meal and hearty cooked breakfast.
Beverages are sold at the licensed, on board bar.
Overnight: Milford
Mariner
Meals: dinner
Day 2: From Milford Sound To
Queenstown
The next morning following breakfast, there is further cruising
before returning to the Milford Wharf. After disembarkation
passengers return to Queenstown by coach.

Doubtful Sound wilderness
cruise Day Tour |
|

|
On boarding the coach in Queenstown, visitors
are treated to a relaxing trip along the shores of Lake Wakatipu
and through the rolling countryside to Pearl Harbour, Manapouri.
They then board a Real Journeys vessel and cruise across picturesque
Lake Manapouri to West Arm before travelling by coach through
dense rainforest across Wilmot Pass. There are opportunities
along the way to examine the plant life and view the spectacular
scenery. Once at Deep Cove, visitors board the catamaran,
the Commander Peak, for a 3 hour cruise of beautiful Doubtful

are fur seals basking on the rocks, or a resident pod of bottlenose
dolphins. Rare Fiordland crested penguins are sometimes encountered
on a seasonal basis. Understanding of the area is greatly
enhanced by the interesting on board English commentary. On
the return journey, the vessel's engines are turned off and
