The multidisciplinary International Taskforce on Neck Pain and Associated Disorders (the Taskforce) has spent six years researching the evidence around the management of neck pain and the implications for policy and practice. Its findings have been presented to audiences in Europe, America and Canada, and in November 2008 there will be the prospect to interact with these internationally recognised experts here in Australia.

The Australasian Symposium on Neck Pain provides a unique opportunity for clinicians, researchers and policy makers in Australia, the western Pacific and south-east Asia, to hear directly from members and discuss their findings.

This special one-day event will include:

  • presentation and discussion of issues and their impact from a variety of perspectives, including population health, employment and industries relevant to motor vehicle accidents
  • diagnosis and treatment, including surgical and non-surgical treatment regimes and potential complications
  • forecasting and new conceptual models for treating neck pain
  • implications for patients and clinicians including surgeons
  • recommendations for clinicians, researchers, patients and policy makers.

The Australasian Symposium on Neck Pain will be held on 23 November 2008, back-to-back with the Better Choices Better Health: Improving Compensation Outcomes Conference, to be held 24-26 November 2008.

The Better Choices Better Health Conference will explore ways of achieving optimum health, social and return to work outcomes for people injured on our roads and in the workplace. There will be a strong focus on best practice management of soft tissue injury.
